The Backstage Guide to Long Island’s Creative Underground
If theatre has ever felt like home to you, this guide was made for you.
Download a free, magazine-style guide to the people, places, and backstage moments that make Long Island’s arts scene a nervous-system reset, not just a night out.
This is not a theatre program.
It’s a backstage pass.
If you’ve ever left a show feeling calmer than when you walked in.
If creative spaces help you breathe again.
If you’ve found belonging in places where other parts of life felt loud, isolating, or performative.
This guide will feel familiar in the best way.

What this guide actually gives you
This isn’t inspiration for inspiration’s sake. It’s something you can use.
Inside The Backstage Guide, you’ll find:
- Real backstage stories from CM Performing Arts Center
- The humans who hold the magic together when no one is watching
- A tribute to Jon Rivera and what legacy looks like in creative spaces
- Why theatre becomes a second home for so many people
- Local pre and post show spots cast and crew actually go
- A new way to think about creativity as nervous system regulation
It’s part culture.
Part community.
Part quiet permission to slow down and feel human again.
Why we created this
We’re Dr. Jenene and Dr. Van from Sound Chiropractic.
We work closely with performers, tech crews, volunteers, and creatives across Long Island. What we’ve seen over and over is this:
The arts demand athletic bodies.
Long hours. Repetition. Emotional intensity.
And yet, outside of Broadway, most artists are expected to push through without the kind of care professional athletes have received for decades.
This guide isn’t a sales pitch.
It’s an acknowledgment.
A way of saying: the work you do matters.
The spaces you love matter.
And your body does too.
How to use the guide
